Lawn care in the Redlands
Spongy underfoot, brown patches after a humid week, or sandy spots that dry out days after rain? Redlands lawns grow fast and wear out in their own ways. We'll work out what's going on with yours and lay out the fix, step by step.

What Redlands lawns are up against
The Redlands are one of the closest parts of our patch. Redland Bay and Victoria Point are a short drive from our Beenleigh base along Beenleigh–Redland Bay Road, and Capalaba, Cleveland and Wellington Point are still only 30 to 40 km away. So it's easy for us to take a proper look and come back for any follow-up work.
Conditions here are coastal: more rain and humidity than inland suburbs, mild winters and a long growing season, so grass grows hard for most of the year. The soil can also change within a single suburb.
- A spongy, bouncy lawn that scalps when you mow
- Brown or straw-coloured patches after warm, humid weather
- Sandy areas that dry out within days of rain
- Water lying on top of clay-based yards after a storm
- Grass thinning under trees or down the side of the house
- Moths over the lawn at dusk, then patches chewed back within days
Spongy, patchy or browning off?
We'll check the thatch, the soil and the turf, look for grubs and disease, and tell you straight what your Redlands lawn needs. Jobs from $220.
Three soils, three different lawns
Soil decides more about how a Redlands lawn behaves than almost anything else, and it varies a lot across the city. Part of the onsite check is working out which one you're on.
Red volcanic soil
The rich red ground the district's farms were built on. It's well structured and drains freely, but it can run acidic and packs hard where people and dogs walk. A soil test shows whether pH is holding the lawn back, and coring loosens the worn tracks.
Sandy pockets near the bay
Sand drains so fast that water and fertiliser go straight past the roots, and the lawn browns off between showers. A proper soak instead of a daily sprinkle, light and regular feeds and a loam top dressing to build up the soil all help.
Clay and compacted fill
Some older subdivisions and newer estates sit on clay subsoil or fill. Water lies on top after rain, roots stay shallow and the lawn struggles in dry spells. Lawn coring is usually the first job, because nothing else works until the soil is opened up.
Humid summers, fast thatch and lawn disease
A long, warm, wet growing season means fast growth, and fast growth means thatch. Couch and kikuyu runners pile up into a thick mat that sheds water, hides pests and makes the lawn spongy. In a lot of Redlands yards, dethatching and scarifying every year or two in spring keeps it in check.
Fungal disease such as brown patch turns up when warm days, damp nights and a lawn that never quite dries out line up: most often in autumn and spring, and after long humid spells in summer. A thick thatch layer holds moisture around the runners and makes it worse. The trouble is that lawn grubs and armyworm leave similar damage, and so does dry sandy soil, so we work out which one it is before anything gets treated.

What it costs
Jobs start from $220. The price comes down to the size of the lawn, access for the machines and which steps it needs: a scarify, coring, top dressing, a feed, or a mix of them as a full lawn renovation. You get a firm price with the work set out step by step after the free onsite check.
When to book
Spring to early summer suits dethatching, coring and top dressing, while the grass is growing hard enough to recover quickly. Humidity often hangs on into autumn here, so that's a good time to keep an eye out for grubs and disease.
