Football field line marking in Brisbane
Trials are coming, last season's lines have faded or wandered out of square, and nobody at the club has the time to string the fields out again. We set out soccer, rugby league, rugby union and touch fields with a GPS line marker, then re-mark them through the season so referees and players can read them every week.
- Pre-season and seasonal marking, costed up front
- Our own GPS line marker for accurate set-out
- Our own crew, family-run in Beenleigh
- Fields up to 400 km from Beenleigh
Fields that drift, fade or don't measure up
Here, football means the rectangular-field codes: soccer, rugby league, rugby union and touch. AFL and cricket ovals have their own page. Plenty of grounds carry more than one code, and the problems with the lines look much the same on all of them.
- The field is re-marked by eye each week and has slowly wandered out of square
- Penalty areas, 22s or 10 metre lines measure out a little wrong
- Paint is gone by the next game while the couch is still growing hard in autumn
- Junior fields are squeezed into the corners at odd angles
- The same goal mouths wear out every year because the field never moves
Trials and first rounds on the way?
Talk to us before the February rush. We'll walk the ground, confirm codes and field sizes, and give you a firm price and the dates we can do before any paint goes down.
Soccer, rugby league, rugby union and touch fields
Each code marks its field differently. We set out to the code's laws or your competition's rules, adjusted for age group and the space available.
Football (soccer)
Touchlines, goal lines and halfway, the centre circle, goal and penalty areas, penalty spots and arcs, and corner arcs. Full-size pitches and smaller MiniRoos fields.
Rugby league
Touchlines, try and dead-ball lines, halfway and the 10 metre lines, including the 20s and 40s used for restarts and kicks. Shorter fields for mini and mod league.
Rugby union
Try and dead-ball lines, halfway, the 22s, the broken 10 metre lines either side of halfway, and the 5 and 15 metre dashed lines along each touchline.
Touch
Sidelines, score lines, dead-ball lines, halfway and the interchange areas, at full size or reduced for junior and modified games.
Run-off matters as much as the lines. We position each field so players have room to pull up clear of fences, light poles, drains and any cricket wicket.
Set out once, properly, with GPS
The first marking of the season sets the standard for every week after it. If the field is a metre short or the corners are out, every re-mark copies the mistake.
Our GPS line marker places each field from satellite positioning rather than string lines, and marks it in the same position every time. It also makes it easy to shift a soccer or touch field a few metres between seasons to spread goal-mouth wear. Fixed rugby posts leave less room to move.
What GPS set-out gives you
- Square corners and straight touchlines
- Accurate circles, arcs and penalty areas
- The same position at every re-mark
- Junior fields laid out neatly across a senior ground
- A clean set-out even when last season's lines are long gone
Junior and senior football field sizes
Exact sizes depend on the code, competition, age group and how much room your ground has. We confirm them at the onsite check. As a general guide:
Senior fields
A senior rugby league field of play is about 100 metres between the try lines and 68 metres wide, plus in-goal areas. Union is similar, at up to 100 by 70 metres. Soccer varies more, because the laws allow a range: full-size pitches are commonly around 100 to 110 metres long and 64 to 75 metres wide.
Junior fields
MiniRoos soccer and mini and mod league use shortened, narrower fields, and several can often be marked across one senior ground.
Touch fields
About 70 by 50 metres plus in-goal areas, so a large ground or park can often fit more than one.
How often football fields need re-marking
Line marking paint coats the grass leaf rather than the soil, so each mow cuts some of it off. How long the lines last depends mostly on how fast the turf is growing.
- February to April: couch is still growing strongly, so most fields need a weekly re-mark
- Winter: growth slows and lines hold longer, so fortnightly re-marks are often enough
- After heavy rain or a big weekend: washed-out lines and worn goal mouths may need a touch-up between visits
Renovate first, then mark
Pre-season is also the time for turf aeration and top dressing, done before the first set-out so new lines aren't cored through or buried. Our guide to sports field and school oval maintenance explains how it all fits together.
What football field marking costs
Jobs start from $220. The bigger jobs are pre-season set-outs: a ground with several junior fields, or two codes sharing one rectangle, takes longer and uses more paint than re-marking a single senior field.
