Sports turf management programs in South East QLD
If the field only gets looked at when it's already hard, bare in the goal mouths and two weeks out from round one, you're paying for rescue work every year. A turf management program puts the work on a calendar, costed up front, so the field goes into each season in shape and holds up through it.
- Year-round contracts costed for your budget
- In-house Clegg hammer testing and soil sampling
- Tractor-mounted aeration and top dressing gear
- Fields up to 400 km from Beenleigh
Why fields go backwards season after season
Sports fields rarely fail in one go. Compaction builds every week of the season, thatch creeps up, feeding gets skipped when money is tight, and by the time anyone looks closely the surface is hard, thin and a fortnight from the first game.
- The ground is harder every pre-season, which means harder landings in every tackle and fall
- Goal mouths, the centre of the field and warm-up areas never fully recover
- Water sits on the field after storms and games get called off
- Bindii, clover and crowsfoot grass move into the thin areas
- There's no record of what the field needs or what was done last year
A turf management program breaks that pattern. Each job goes in when it works best, decisions rest on test readings, and the full year is priced before it starts.
Spending every pre-season rescuing the field?
We'll walk the field, take Clegg hammer readings and pull soil cores, then lay out a year of work with a price you can put in the budget. Single jobs from $220.
Everything the field needs, on one contract
Each program is built from what we find on the field. Most draw on these services.
Aeration
Hollow tine coring while the couch can recover fast, and solid tining between fixtures to keep the surface from setting hard again. See sports field aeration.
Top dressing
Sand spread by machine to fill core holes, level wear and slowly build a surface that drains. See turf top dressing.
Scarifying
Thatch cut out of couch fields before it makes the surface spongy and slow. See commercial scarifying.
Fertiliser program
Feeding timed to growth and the draw, with rates set from soil results. See turf fertiliser programs.
Weed control
Seasonal spraying for bindii, clover and grassy weeds, timed before they seed. See commercial weed control.
Hardness and soil testing
Clegg hammer readings across the field and soil tests, so the work is based on numbers.
Irrigation checks
Sprinkler coverage and run times checked before summer so the whole field gets water. See turf irrigation.
Line marking
Pre-season and in-season marking with our GPS line marker, if you want it on the same contract. See line marking.
If you have grounds staff or a mowing contractor, we plan around them and pass on mowing height and watering advice to match.

Cricket grounds and dual-use ovals
An oval with cricket in summer and football in winter has two short breaks instead of one long one. The main renovation goes into whichever break suits the couch best, usually spring or early autumn, and in-season work gets lighter and more frequent. Grounds booked all year can be renovated in sections so part stays playable.
Our article on school oval and sports field maintenance covers the basics in more depth.
Costed up front, reported after every visit
How it's costed
You get a schedule of works for the year: every visit, what it includes and what it costs. The total is agreed before the program starts.
- Itemised, so the scope can be trimmed or added to as the budget allows
- Visits dated against your season draw or school terms
- Any extra work priced in writing before it goes ahead
- Scope reviewed each year against the test results
What each report covers
- What was done, where, and why
- Product types and application rates
- Clegg hammer readings on testing visits, compared with the last test
- Photos and notes on anything needing attention, like a faulty sprinkler or a wet corner
- A record to keep with your safety files and to support the next budget request
Planned around council, school and club budgets
Field work is easier to fund when the number is known before the budget is set. A program priced twelve months ahead goes in as one line, with the detail behind it.
Councils
Queensland councils budget July to June. Talk to us in autumn and you will have a priced program for budget submissions, with the spring renovation falling early in the new financial year.
Schools
Heavy work goes into the September or summer holidays, and in-term visits stay short and clear of sport times. Many schools budget on the calendar year, so we can price January to December.
Sporting clubs
Clubs often budget by season and fund bigger renovations through grants. A written scope and price supports a grant application or committee decision.
Body corporates
The program sits in the annual maintenance budget, with visit dates set well ahead so residents know when the field is closed.
What a program costs
There's no standard price. Single jobs start from $220. A program is priced on the playing area and number of fields, the renovation passes the readings call for, how much sand the top dressing needs, the fertiliser program, line marking and travel from Beenleigh. You get a firm price for the year after the free onsite check.
