Commercial weed control for sports fields in South East QLD

Bindii prickles in players' hands and knees, clover drawing bees onto the school oval, and clumps of crowsfoot and paspalum making the footing uneven. We find out which weeds you have and why they are thriving, then treat them on a schedule that works around games and school hours.

Why it matters

Weeds on a playing surface are a safety problem

On a home lawn, weeds are mostly about looks. On a council ground, club field or school oval they change how the surface plays and how safe it is. Players dive, slide and fall on this ground every week, and kids sit on it at lunchtime.

  • Bindii sets sharp seed prickles in spring that end up in hands, knees and bare feet
  • Clover flowers draw bees, and the patches turn slippery in wet weather
  • Crowsfoot forms tough clumps in worn goal mouths and centre corridors, leaving uneven footing
  • Nutgrass outgrows the couch and stands above it within days of mowing, and keeps spreading underground
  • Winter grass grows in light green clumps through the cooler months, then dies off and leaves bare patches as it warms up
  • Paspalum forms coarse clumps with sticky seed heads in summer, and creeping oxalis spreads through thin turf

Bindii or clover taking over the oval?

We'll walk the field, identify the weeds, look at what is letting them in and lay out a treatment plan around your fixtures. Jobs from $220.

How we treat it

Pre-emergent, post-emergent and fixing the cause

No single spray sorts out every weed. We match the treatment to the weeds you have, your turf type and the time of year.

Pre-emergent

Goes on before weed seed germinates: autumn for winter weeds such as bindii and winter grass, late winter to early spring for crowsfoot and summer grass. It cuts down how many come up rather than stopping every one. We plan it around your renovation dates, because coring straight after a pre-emergent breaks up the treated layer.

Post-emergent

Selective sprays for weeds that are already growing, chosen to suit both the weed and your turf species and applied at label rates. Light infestations get spot sprayed. Where weeds are spread across the whole field, we treat the whole field.

The cause

Weeds move into gaps. Crowsfoot loves compacted, worn ground, nutgrass loves wet spots and clover often points to low nitrogen. Turf aeration and a fertiliser program build thicker turf that leaves weeds less room.

Around your fixtures

Spraying scheduled around games and school hours

A field can't simply be closed whenever it suits the spray crew. We plan applications with your groundsperson, school business manager, club committee or council parks staff so the work fits around how the field is used.

  • Spraying booked after weekend games, outside school hours or during the holidays where possible
  • Weather checked on the day: no spraying in wind, before rain or in extreme heat, with a backup day agreed in advance
  • Signs at the entry points while the field is being treated and until it is clear to use
  • Re-entry times for the products used given to you in advance, so training and PE classes can be planned
  • Mowing timed around spraying, so the weeds have enough leaf to take up the treatment

One visit rarely clears a field, and we won't pretend otherwise. The plan shows any follow-up rounds and when they fall, so they can be booked around the draw as well.

Price and why us

What it costs, and what you get

What weed control costs

Jobs start from $220. The price depends on the size of the area, which weeds you have and how widespread they are, whether it is spot spraying or a full-field treatment, how many follow-up visits are needed, and how far we travel.

You get a firm price after the free onsite check. Weed control can be a one-off job, a seasonal pre-emergent program, or part of a year-round turf management contract costed up front for your budget.

Why work with us

  • We identify the weeds, and the reason they are there, before anything is sprayed
  • A treatment plan laid out step by step, with timing you can share with staff, coaches and parents
  • Our own crew, working around your fixtures and school timetable
  • Weed control coordinated with aeration and feeding, so the turf can fill the gaps
  • Family-run and based in Beenleigh, covering fields up to 400 km away
How it works

How a weed control job runs

  1. Free onsite check

We walk the field with you, identify the weeds, note where they are worst and look at compaction, drainage and cover.

  2. Plan and price

You get the treatment plan, the timing around your fixtures and a firm price. Jobs start from $220.

  3. Treatment days

We spray at the agreed times, put up signs, tell you when the field is clear to use, leave a written record of what went on and come back for follow-ups as planned.

Common questions

How much does commercial weed control cost?
Jobs start from $220. Spot spraying a few patches on one field sits at the lower end. A full-field treatment with follow-up visits, or a year-round pre-emergent and selective program across several grounds, costs more. You get a firm price after the free onsite check, and seasonal programs can be costed up front for your budget year.
When is the best time to treat bindii on a sports field?
Winter, while the plants are still small and before they set their prickly seed in late winter and spring. By the time players are feeling the prickles, next year's seed is already formed. A pre-emergent in autumn helps cut down how many come up, and a selective spray through winter deals with the ones that do.
Can you get rid of nutgrass for good?
Honestly, nobody can promise that. Nutgrass spreads from tubers deep in the soil that survive a single spray, so it takes repeat treatments, often across more than one season. It also thrives in wet, compacted ground, so improving drainage and relieving compaction helps the turf compete with it.
When can players and students use the field after spraying?
It depends on the product. Most need to dry on the leaf before anyone walks on the area, and every label sets its own re-entry period, which is longer for some products than others. We confirm the times before we start and book the work so the field is clear in time for training or the school day.
Do we get a record of what was sprayed?
Yes. After each visit you get a written record of what was treated and where, the product types and rates used, the date and the re-entry time. Councils and schools usually need this for their safety and maintenance files, and it shows at a glance what has been done when the program is reviewed each year.
Why do weeds keep coming back on our field?
Weeds fill gaps. Thin, worn or compacted turf, wet spots and low fertility all give them room, and spraying on its own doesn't change any of that. Pairing weed control with aeration, top dressing and a turf fertiliser program builds denser turf, which leaves weeds far less space to get started.
