Lawn care on the Gold Coast

Brown patches that come back every dry spell, water that beads on the surface, or new-estate turf that never took off? On the Gold Coast the cause is usually in the ground: coastal sand, hinterland clay or compacted fill. We'll come out, work out which you're dealing with and lay out the work step by step.

Signs your lawn needs help

What goes wrong with Gold Coast lawns

Long dry spells and heavy summer storms find every weak spot. Watch for:

  • Brown patches that come back every dry spell, sprinkler or not
  • Water beading on the surface instead of soaking in
  • Turf joins still showing years after the house was built
  • Puddles in low spots, or runoff down a sloping block
  • Dead patches that spread fast in late summer

That last one is often lawn grubs rather than dry soil, so we dig in and check before recommending anything.

Brown patches the sprinkler can't fix?

We'll check the soil type, the thatch and the roots, and tell you straight what's causing it and what it'll take to fix. Jobs from $220.

How we fix it

Lawn care matched to your soil

What fixes a lawn on Pimpama fill does little for one on Southport sand.

New estates in the northern corridor

In Pimpama, Coomera and Upper Coomera, turf often goes down over compacted fill with a thin layer of underlay, and the roots stop at the hard layer. Lawn coring breaks through it, and top dressing levels settled joins and low spots.

Sandy soils near the coast

From Southport down the coast to Tweed Heads and Kingscliff, sand drains fast and holds little water or fertiliser. Coring lets water soak in, a loam top dressing builds up the soil, and fertilising works better as lighter, more regular feeds.

Clay towards the hinterland

Nerang, Mudgeeraba and the suburbs closer to the hills sit on heavier clay that packs hard, sheds water down slopes and stays wet in the hollows. Core aeration relieves the compaction, and on acreage we can bring the larger John Deere Aercore 800.

Established couch and kikuyu lawns in Helensvale, Oxenford and Robina often carry thick thatch too. Dethatching cuts it out, and a full lawn renovation deals with thatch, compaction and levels in one visit.

Price

What lawn care costs on the Gold Coast

Jobs start from $220. The final price comes down to the size of the lawn, access for the machines, which steps it needs and how much material it takes. A sandy lawn being built up with loam usually takes more top dressing than a quick level on a new estate.

You get a firm price at the free onsite check, with no obligation to go ahead.

Gold Coast lawn care questions

How much does lawn care cost on the Gold Coast?
Jobs start from $220. Coring a small lawn sits at the lower end; renovating a large, uneven yard that needs plenty of top dressing costs more. Access for the machines matters too. You get a firm price after the free onsite check, before anything is booked.
When is the best time to renovate a Gold Coast lawn?
Spring to early summer, roughly September to December, while the soil is warm and the grass is growing hard. On sandy soil, plan to water well for a few weeks afterwards, because spring heat dries sand out fast. On sloping clay blocks, aim to get the work done before the heavy summer storms, which can wash fresh top dressing downhill.
Do you cover the southern Gold Coast and Tweed Heads?
Yes. Home lawns from Pimpama down through Burleigh Heads and Coolangatta to Tweed Heads and Kingscliff sit inside our 100 km residential radius from Beenleigh. The northern suburbs are closest to our base, so if you're near the southern end, call and we'll tell you straight when we can get there.
Why does my lawn on sandy soil brown off in patches?
Sand drains quickly and, once it dries right out, can start to repel water. Rain and irrigation bead on the surface and run to the low spots while the high spots stay dry. Coring opens the surface so water gets in, and a loam top dressing helps the soil hold moisture. Our guide to watering and feeding grass covers the rest.
