Sports field maintenance on the Sunshine Coast
Sandy coastal fields that dry out and go hungry between storms, clay grounds in Moreton Bay and the hinterland that hold water for days, and a wet summer that squeezes the renovation window. We test what's under your field and build the program around it.
- Year-round contracts costed for your budget
- In-house Clegg hammer testing and soil sampling
- Tractor-mounted aeration and top dressing gear
- Fields up to 400 km from Beenleigh
Sand on the coast, clay inland, and plenty of summer rain
Many grounds along the coast from Caloundra to Maroochydore sit on sandy soil. It drains fast and resists compaction, but holds little water or nutrient, so fields dry out quickly and go pale after heavy rain washes the fertiliser through.
Head inland to Nambour and Gympie, or south into Moreton Bay around Caboolture and North Lakes, and heavier clay is more common. There the problem flips: water sits on top after storms, then the ground bakes hard enough to be a safety issue for players.
- Pale, thin turf a few weeks after a feed on sandy fields
- Dry patches that shed water while the rest stays green
- Water lying on clay grounds for days after a storm
- Thatch building fast through a hot, humid summer
Field draining too fast, or not at all?
We'll check the soil, take Clegg hammer readings and look at drainage and sprinkler coverage, then tell you plainly what's holding the field back and what it will take to fix.
Work matched to your soil, not a standard package
Sandy and clay fields need very different programs, so the soil test comes first.
Feeding sandy fields
Smaller, more frequent feeds timed around the rain, not one big application that washes past the roots. The fertiliser program is set from soil tests, so the money goes on what the field is actually short of.
Opening up clay grounds
Core aeration relieves compaction and lets storm rain soak in, and sand top dressing over a few seasons builds a firmer, freer-draining surface on top of the clay.
Getting water where it's needed
We check how the irrigation covers the field and core the dry patches so water soaks in.
From Moreton Bay to the hinterland
We take on club grounds, school ovals and council fields across the Sunshine Coast, its hinterland and Moreton Bay. The further out the ground, the more sense a contract makes: visits booked ahead, several jobs on each trip and nearby fields grouped into the same run, so travel isn't loaded onto one small job.
Approximate drive from Beenleigh
- North Lakes about 1 hour
- Caboolture about 1 hour
- Caloundra about 1.5 hours
- Maroochydore about 1.5 hours
- Nambour a little over 1.5 hours
- Gympie a little over 2 hours
Times vary with traffic.
What a Sunshine Coast program costs
Jobs start from $220. Field work is priced after the free onsite check, based on:
- The playing area and number of fields
- Whether it needs one coring pass or a full renovation
- Tonnes of sand, and how many feeds the soil needs
- Travel, shared across each trip
You get a firm price, and a contract covers the year for your council, school or club budget.
We test the soil before we recommend anything
- Diagnosis first. Soil tests and Clegg hammer readings show whether the field needs feeding, opening up or both, set out in a plain written report.
- The right machine for the site. A John Deere Aercore 800 for open fields, and a Toro stand-on aerator for school grounds and smaller areas a bigger machine can't reach.
- Family-run from Beenleigh, with the same crew doing our sports field maintenance across South East Queensland.
